Merry Renert: Mixed Media Artist Bio
Born into a family that encouraged artistic endeavors, Merry explored her talent, beginning at the Art Students League in New York City at age 10. She developed an extensive portfolio of drawings and paintings for her entry into Music and Art High School. Summers during those years were spent weaving textile fabrics as samples for a wool wholesaler. Her love of texture was born there and is apparent in her mixed-media work today.
Merry continued her art education at Boston University’s School of Fine and Applied Art and then at Hunter College of the City of New York where she graduated with a major in art education. She continued honing her skills in painting and sculpture on the graduate level at Hartford University’s School of Art and later here in South Florida at Nova Southeastern University.
Recently, Merry was featured in the Jupiter Magazine (September 2021) for her paintings in the Lighthouse Gallery. She has sold extensively in the South Florida and Orlando areas to local collectors. Her paintings have been shown at the Cait Rose Gallery in Delray Beach as well as many art shows both online and in person. She received a Certificate of Recognition by Art Impact International (January 2021).
Her paintings today display her love of texture by building up layers of paint, polymers, fabrics, and papers as the foundation for the subject matter. The finished pieces invite touching as well as viewing to be fully appreciated.
Whether the paintings depict recognizable subjects or are completely abstract, there is an enigmatic beauty of movement and mystery to be enjoyed.
